Gold Standard Certification
The certification process is geared to help design projects for maximum positive impact and to provide the necessary assurance that they achieved what they intended. This includes hiring an approved third-party auditor, called a validation and verification body or VVB, to provide independent verification for project design and performance.

Project Design
- Plan project and hold stakeholder consultation
- Prepare a non-technical note of the project summarising:
- Basic project design
- Assessment against Gold Standard Safeguards
- Estimation of climate and sustainable development impacts
Preliminary Review
- Submit a completed Stakeholder Consultation Report

Submit a Draft Project Design Document (PDD) including:
- Safeguarding Principles Assessment
- Assessment against Gold Standard Safeguards
- Monitoring plan
- Submit a signed GS4GG Cover Letter Consultation Report
- Submit signed Gold Standard Terms & Conditions
Third Party Validation
- Identify and contract a third-party VVB to carry out validation. Click here to see a list of accredited VVBs
- Provide a fully completed Project Design Document (PDD) and all relevant supporting documentation for VVB validation.
Design Review
- Submit a VVB approved Project Design Document (PDD) and all supporting documentation
- Submit VVB final Validation Report
Project Monitoring
- Continuously engage with stakeholders
- Submit Annual Reports in years when verification does not occur
- Prepare a Monitoring Report for verification to request issuance of impact statements and/or products
Third Party Verification
- Identify and contract a third-party VVB to carry out verification
- Provide a fully completed Monitoring Report and all relevant supporting documentation for VVB validation
Performance Review
- Submit a VVB approved Monitoring Report and all relevant supporting documentation
- Submit VVB Final Verification Report
